School Board Relations

Amy is an experienced education consultant and a licensed MN classroom teacher of over 30 years. She served two 4-year terms as an elected School Board member for Mounds View Public Schools. She was the Board Chair for 4 years. During her term, she worked to appoint a superintendent and led the board through a bond campaign to add 44 classrooms and additional space to the district to support growing enrollment. She consults with school boards on; strategic planning, superintendent transitions, policy governance issues, superintendent partnerships and board communication. Amy also develops materials, resources and training for schools on superintendent and principal support, mental health and social emotional learning.

She is a governor-appointed member of the MN State Advisory Council on Mental Health, as well as the Mental Health in Schools Workgroup. In this role, she provides guidance and recommendations to the MN legislature in order to support mental health in schools. In addition, Amy works closely with the MN legislature to develop legislation which improves the mental health of students, staff/teachers in schools. She is working to add to the state infrastructure to support the mental health needs of students and staff/teachers.

Amy taught elementary grades and was an instructional coach for Minneapolis Public Schools, Stillwater Public Schools and Mounds View Public Schools. She was also an administrator for Minneapolis and Stillwater. Most recently, she was the Director of Elementary Education for Minneapolis Public Schools, where she oversaw the work for 150 math and reading specialists and coaches and coordinated the curriculum work for 44 elementary sites. She has worked in leadership and curriculum for over 15 years. In addition, Amy taught in the Master of Education programs at both The College of St. Scholastica and St. Mary’s University. She also supervised student teachers for both programs.

She received her BA in Elementary Education from Gustavus Adolphus College and her Med in Urban Education from Hamline University. Amy is an active community volunteer and serves on the Board of Directors for the Bridge for Youth, a shelter for homeless teens in Minneapolis. She has volunteered for the Ralph Reeder Food Shelf in the Mounds View District for the past 15 years.
