Sr Business Consultant/Education Funding Specialist

John Toop is the recently retired Director of Business Services at Edina Public Schools, a position he served in since July 2019. Previously, John served as a Director of Business Services in the Hopkins School district, which he began in 2006. He held the position of Controller at Hopkins Public Schools beginning in May 2005. Mr. Toop is currently assisting Fridley Public Schools on a consulting basis.

He began his school finance career at Minnewaska Area Schools #2149, where he served as Business Manager for 14 ½ years. He also assisted Benson Public Schools and Cyrus Public Schools with Business Manager duties on an as needed basis.

Mr. Toop started his career in the non-profit sector as Financial Director at West Central Community Action Agency in Elbow Lake, MN, and as Financial Director at Duluth Community Action in Duluth, MN. John holds a bachelor’s degree in Economics from the University of Minnesota-Morris.
